I wanna play with my buddy. former is more straightforward but latter supports a bit more stuff iirc. both also have distinct standalone maps to play with your friends and do some changes to the gameplay you may or may not like. Go into the options menu. Under the keyboard tab, there is a section called 'Advanced'. It'll open up a small checklist menu; check 'Enable developer console'. Now by pressing the tilde key (~, located right around your Esc key) anytime ingame or in the main menu you can access the developer console. That's where you'll paste these binds.
it works with l4d2 splitscreen with some console commands, but i dont know about half life 2. i asked in l4d2 forums, it seems it doesnt work. it does work, you just need to activate split screen through console commands, already tested this myself a while ago. and you need to load the map through console commands first for some weird reason. #6.

My main gripe is with switching weapons, you use each D-pad button for categories 1-4 but for 5 & 6 you have to switch to the keyboard.
